House prices rose by 0.8 per cent in April

Posted on June 27th, 2011

House prices in England and Wales rose by 0.8 per cent in April, the first monthly rise since January and the biggest rise since January 2010, official data from the Land Registry showed yesterday.

However, the average home price was still 1.3 per cent lower than a year ago at £163,083, the Land Registry said. House prices in London rose by 3 per cent on the month to stand 5 per cent higher than a year earlier, it added. Land Registry data are based on completed property purchases, and so tend to lag behind the measures based on mortgage approvals from Nationwide and Halifax.
